Ethiopia: Meles says leagues central to ensure benefit of women, youth

Addis Ababa – Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said that the establishment of the EPDRF women and youth leagues would play an important role to benefit the youth and women and enable the front produce young leaders. The launching conference of the national EPRDF youth and women league was opened today.

Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, who is also chairperson of EPRDF, said on the occasion that the establishment of the EPDRF women and youth leagues would play an important role to efficiently put the women and youth packages in to practice.

Meles recalled that both women and youth played a notable role in the fight against the front waged against the dictatorial Derg regime, adding, that the leagues would also play crucial leadership role in maintaining the victories the front achieved against the dictatorial system.

Remarkable results were registered in bringing women to leadership positions over the last few years, the Premier said, while good efforts have also been exerted to build the capacity of the youth to play a leadership role.

Moreover, the establishment of the leagues reflects that the gowing participation of women and the youth in strengthening the EPRDF , Meles said.

Representative of the leagues establishment organization committee, Yetinayet Mulugeta also said that the successful establishment of the leagues would play an important role to bring the participation of women and the youth in the development, good governance and democratic efforts in the county to a new height.

Over 1000 representatives of the two leagues from all states and town administrations attended the launching conference of the leagues.
